Year 7
During this year the Year 7 children will study six of the main religions
of the world, these being Christianity, Sikhism, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism
and Hinduism. They will become much more familiar with these religions
by studying them through ceremonies connected with landmarks or special
occasions in people's lives.
This course begins with a look at why we study religions and their impact
on society. They will consider the multicultural society in which we live.
By studying these religions they will hopefully begin to understand them
better and to develop sensitivity, empathy and tolerance towards people
of different cultures and beliefs.

Year 8
Throughout this year the theme will be "People". We will begin
with the pupils concentrating on themselves, this is to enable them to
think positively about themselves and thus raise their self esteem. They
will then consider people who are part of their lives and with whom they
interact frequently - friends, relatives, teachers etc.
Following this we will consider people who have been important to Humanity
- Mother Teresa and Albert Schweitzer.
We will look at the lives of disadvantaged children in Peru and compare
their existence to our own.
Our next section will be a consideration of "Ultimate issues"
- Euthanasia, Abortion and Capital Punishment. The children will be asked
to produce an extended essay on Capital Punishment, discussing their own
thoughts and feelings, giving the views of others and exploring religious
feelings towards the use of the Death Penalty.
Immediately prior to Easter the children will study the life of Jesus
Christ. They will look carefully at facts versus beliefs and consider
if we can conclusively prove the existence of Christ. We will also study
artistic representations of Christ and discuss our responses to them.
Our final project will be a detailed study of Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and
the Islamic faith.
